Kabye means “peasant of the stone” in reference to the stone walls used in their terrace farming in the mountainous regions of Togo, Benin, and Ghana. Belonging to the cluster of Gurunsi/Gur language speakers, these cultivators are primarily devoted to the subsistence farming, growing millet and yam crops as well as cotton.
