The Mossi are the largest ethnic group in Burkina Faso, although significant in number in the neighboring countries of Togo, Ghana, Mali, Benin, and the Ivory Coast. According to tradition, they are descendants of Ouedraogo, the first ever authentic Mossi, born of the union of a Mamprusi princess and Mande hunter. Thanks to their mastery of the horse, they were able to create and expand a large coalition of Mossi kingdoms.
