Indigenous to southeast Nigeria, the Ogoni remained in relative isolation which allowed them to survive the period of the slave trade with not even a single case of enslavement of their people. They were nonetheless brought to international attention with their recent mobilization: The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP), for social, economic and environmental justice in the Niger Delta of Nigeria.
